Silicon steel sheet is a low carbon-containing soft magnetic alloy of ferrosilicon. It has a silicon content of 0.5-4.5%, which is made by hot rolling and cold rolling. Adding silicon can improve the resistivity and maximum permeability of iron and reduce coercivity, core loss (iron loss), and magnetic aging. This product is designed specifically for electrical applications, especially in the construction of transformers, motors, generators, and other electrical equipment.
Generally speaking, silicon steel sheets can be divided into different types:
According to their manufacturing process: hot rolled silicon steel sheets and cold rolled silicon steel sheets.
According to grain orientations, cold rolled silicon steel sheets can be subdivided into cold rolled non-grain oriented silicon steel sheet and cold rolled oriented silicon steel sheets.
Cold Rolled Non-Grained Oriented Silicon Steel Sheet: it has silicon levels ranging from 0.5% to 3.25% Si and has uniform magnetic properties in all directions. Thus it can be used in the construction of electrical components such as transformers and electric motors where the direction of the magnetic field is not important.
Cold Rolled Grain Oriented Silicon Steel Sheet: it contains 2.9%-3.5% Si, and the crystal structure has a certain regularity and direction. CRGO silicon steel sheet can be used in the manufacturing of transformers, rectifiers, reactors, and large motors, where the direction of the magnetic field is important.

1. Excellent processing performance: it is highly precise in dimension and excellent in mechanical properties, making it easy to be sheared, punched, and stacked by a high-speed punch machine. Also, it has good welding performance.
2. Excellent electromagnetic property: it has the characteristics of low iron loss and high magnetic induction, which can lower cost and save energy for electrical products.
3. Excellent dimensional accuracy: this product has a smooth surface, uniform thickness, small intra-plate deviation, and high lamination factor.
4. Excellent performance of insulating coating: the insulation layer of silicon steel sheet is usually made of a thin layer of oxide or varnish. It is good for anti-corrosion and can improve the punching performance of silicon steel sheets.
5. Low core loss: the low iron loss of silicon steel sheet is an important indicator of the quality of silicon steel sheet. It is determined according to different grades of silicon steel sheet. If the grade is higher, the iron loss value will be lower.
Silicon steel sheets are widely used in the manufacturing of electrical equipment, including:
Motors,
Generators,
Transformers,
Other electrical equipment,
Substrate of silicon steel laminations.
However, it’s worth noting that obtaining silicon steel sheets for DIY projects may be challenging, as they are typically produced and supplied by specialized manufacturers for industrial applications.
